“A full-size SUV is distinguishable by its ability to tow large items, handle rough terrain, contain plenty of space for passengers and cargo, and has 3 rows of seats.”
A full-size SUV is distinctive compared to other SUV sizes and other car classifications since it combines multiple characteristics into a single vehicle. Some notable features of a full-size SUV include the power to tow large items and handle rough terrain, a plethora of space for either passengers or cargo, and 7-8 seats (including the driver) with 3 rows in total. As for the seating, there are 2 types of arrangements. The first being the driver and 1 passenger seat in the first row, the middle row with 3 seats, and the last row with 3 seats. The second arrangement follows the standard 2 front seats in the first row, followed by 2 seats in the middle row, and 3 seats in the last row. When it comes to cargo, full-size SUVs can easily fit 2 large and 2 small bags in the back but can accommodate more if the middle and rear seats are folded.
As one might guess, full-size SUVs come with many advantages but within recent years the automotive industry has divided SUVs into 3 categories. These of which are full-size, mid-size, and compact SUVs. As one may guess, many of these advantages do not only fall upon one category. Below are some of the key reasons to own a full-size SUV compared to its counterparts.
Adaptability
If you enjoy camping, off-roading, skiing, surfing, or any other outdoor sport, a full-size SUV is the perfect vehicle to meet your needs. SUVs are traditionally built on a body-on-frame, which means it uses the base of a truck and it is almost always partnered with a powerful engine. That power surges from the engine and is transferred to the SUV. So, whether you plan to drive on a busy highway, or an off-beaten path in the woods and up a hill to head toward your favorite outdoor spot, a full-size SUV can take you there.
Towing and Cargo Space
Among the 3 types of SUVs, only the full-size SUV can really handle towing and other heavy-hauling jobs. Aside from trucks, they are the only other vehicle classification that can manage to tow bigger items such as trailers that contain boats, large animals, or sometimes other vehicles.
As for cargo space, it has enough room to store luggage or other goods from point A to point B. Even when it seems like there isn’t enough space, the middle and third row of seats can be folded to create more room if necessary.
Size and Comfort
Last but not least, is how spacious a full-size SUV is compared to its counterparts. A full-size SUV is great for adult passengers since they offer more headspace and legroom. In addition to this, full-size SUVs differ from mid-size and compact SUVs as the latter only contains a maximum of 5 seats, while the former has the ability to seat at least 7-9 people in total. When certain seats are not in use, you can also fold them to create more legroom for your passengers or use that space to store more cargo.
In summary, full-size SUVs are the most versatile among the SUV types and other car classifications which is why there has been a recent surge in their popularity. Full-size SUVs can cater to any audience, from large to small sized families, to those who like to shift gears from work to leisure. Instead of spending time switching vehicles to store your bike or wakeboard for your next excursion, by choosing a full-size SUV, there’s no need to worry about rough driving environments, insufficient cargo space, or a lack of comfort.
