Kia continues to set its sights on the future with construction commencing on a new EV plant in Georgia. On October 25, 2022, leaders from the local community grabbed their shovels and ceremonially broke ground on the plant. The facility is expected to begin production in the first half of 2025 and is dedicating its efforts to electrifying the future. With innovation and electrification in mind, Kia is hoping that the plant will establish a stable supply chain for EV batteries in the U.S.
This isn’t Kia’s first time in Georgia either. Back in 2006, the company opened up an auto-assembly* facility in West Point, Georgia, that accounts for 40% of Kia sales in the U.S. Since then, Kia has continued to work side-by-side with the state of Georgia to provide jobs for local communities. The new EV plant is expected to bring in 8,100 jobs.
Kia continues to put down roots in Georgia not only by creating jobs and building a new plant, but also through a dedicated effort to give back to the community. Alongside the breaking ground of the new EV plant, the company will be making a donation to four different charities across Bryan County, Georgia where the factory will be built. As a mobility company that aims to create a better future, Kia is supporting the community through this extension of their Accelerate the Good Program. The donations will go to Family Promise of the Coastal Empire, America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Inspiredu. The future looks bright and electric in Georgia.
