Like the roar of an engine, a woman’s voice is powerful. To celebrate Women’s History Month, we heard from the many celebrated female voices that have helped shape Kia America.
Inspiring women, like Angeles Van Ryzin, a trailblazing Sr. Powertrain Latina Engineer at our Technical Center who helped build the revolutionary Kia Telluride, among many others. Her path to success in an industry dominated by men wasn’t easy, but it was simple: Be the best engineer she could be. For younger women just starting, she advises, “Work hard and keep at it—nothing easy is rewarding.”
Kathy Gleason is the embodiment of that hard work, as the 1st-ever female Regional Director at Kia Motors America. She has become a fierce advocate for women in the industry and puts her 27 years of knowledge into mentoring others. Kathy believes, "Women should never be afraid to take the wheel, take ownership of your career, be your own champion, and find others that will help champion you.”
Championing for others is at the heart of everything Amber Martin stands for, not only is she a proud second-generation Kia dealer, but also leads one the largest minority-owned dealerships in the country and was put at the helm at the age of 23 after her father’s untimely passing. Equipped with degrees in communications and business, she not only honored her father’s legacy, but carved a path of her own, encouraging women to blaze your own path and “Give yourself permission to have a career track different from everyone else’s. Lead with your strengths and honor your journey and what that looks like for you.”
And every woman has their own story to tell, Latesa Bailey, Lawyer & Department Head of Human Resources spent her young life all over the world. That experience paired with her dedication to education drove her to the heights of the industry, and with it, a deep commitment to mentorship. She believes, “Everyone at some point in their career had someone open a door for them and can then give back and open doors for others.” And that’s exactly what she’s done. Overseeing a team of 20, she puts her mantra to work daily.
Women are strong, capable, and belong at every table. Whether it’s at the dealership, in the technical center, or leading a team. Each and every one of these women embodies a story of pride, perseverance, and possibility. We thank the women of Kia and will continue to honor and uplift female voices throughout the year, and beyond.
