CAR BATTERY RECYCLING
At Kia, we're as innovative as they come. And that goes for the full life cycle of our vehicles - from design through to car battery recycling. The eco-friendly treatment and disposal of end-of-life vehicles are among our primary environmental targets. That's why we apply Design for Recycling (DIR) guidelines. We have selected partners across Europe who can recover and recycle as much material from your car as possible, with a particularly comprehensive approach to recycling car batteries. They dispose of harmful substances safely, in accordance with Directive 2000/53/EC.
Kia UK Ltd. has appointed Autogreen Ltd to provide a government-approved national network of certified authorised treatment facilities (ATFs). They take care of the recovery, treatment and recycling of end-of-life Kia vehicles. Autogreen was launched specifically to manage the entire legislation, as required by the End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) Directive. They have great experience within the industry and have built trusted relationships with many car manufacturers.
CAR BATTERY RECYCLING
In the UK, car battery recycling is widely encouraged as part of the EU-wide initiative to completely prohibit the landfill/incineration of automotive and industrial batteries. As a part of this initiative, all battery producers in the UK are required to be registered with the Government.
As a producer of industrial (electric vehicle) batteries under the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009:
We Kia UK Ltd produce NiMH, Li-Ion and lead acid industrial batteries and place them on the market. As part of this regulation we take these items back and dispose of them correctly free of charge. We are required to do this in any calendar year we place new industrial batteries on the market. If any of our customers or in certain cases other end users, require us to take back Industrial batteries, they should contact us at recycling@Kia.co.uk. We will agree the necessary arrangements for the return, proper treatment and recycling of the waste industrial batteries.
