Driving assistance technology
Intelligent technology from Kia that’s smart on safety
It goes without saying that nothing is more important than the safety of you and your passengers. That’s why we’ve developed a suite of advanced Kia driving assistance technologies that can help keep you out of harm’s way. So you can get behind the wheel and feel inspired, knowing that you’re in safe hands. Here are just a few of our advanced safety systems and how they help keep you safe on the road.
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist *
As much as we try our best to be safe and responsible drivers, distractions are inevitable. Whether you’re looking for a parking space in an unfamiliar place or trying to calm an upset child, there will always be something trying to pull your attention from the road. Helpfully, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)* provides an extra set of eyes that look out for potential hazards.
A camera and radar sensors monitor the road ahead. If the system believes a collision is imminent, it will sound a warning and show an alert on the instrument panel. It can then apply the brakes to help avoid an accident if necessary. Some versions of FCA are even able to identify pedestrians and cyclists.
Around-View Monitor
Parking can be stressful. Pedestrians, other vehicles and tight spaces are just some of the challenges we can expect. And, try as you might, you simply can’t look in all directions at once. Kia’s Around-View Monitor can help, though. When manoeuvring at low speeds, the infotainment screen shows you a top-down view of your vehicle and its surroundings – handy for aligning your car with the space. Some models even offer an advanced 3D view. It also allows you to switch between cameras, so at the press of a button, you can see the front, rear and side views. So you can park with confidence.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist
On the topic of parking, few things are more difficult than reversing out of a space in a busy car park. Often, your view is obscured, and it can be impossible to see if there are vehicles approaching from the left or right. That’s where Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) can help. Using sensors, the system can detect when vehicles are approaching from either side and will give you an audible warning when a vehicle nears. If the system thinks a collision is imminent, it can apply the brakes to avoid an incident.
Highway Driving Assist
Highway Driving Assist (HDA) is an intelligent technology that makes long journeys less strenuous. Simply set your desired speed and the system will use its array of sensors to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead – if the vehicle ahead begins to slow down, your vehicle will decelerate too in order to maintain a safe gap. Then, as the traffic picks up the pace, your car will accelerate back to your chosen speed. The system also reads road markings to keep you centred in your lane.

* Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) is an assistance system and does not relieve the driver from their responsibility to safely operate the vehicle at any time. The driver still has to adapt their driving behaviour to their personal driving capabilities, to the legal requirements and to the overall road and traffic conditions. FCA is not designed to drive the vehicle autonomously. For further information, please refer to the owner’s manual.
