To charge your car at home, it’s recommended that you get an electric car charging point installed. This method of charging is approximately three times faster than a three-pin plug for electric vehicles. Our partner, Pod Point have vast experience in home charge points and their installation.

We recommend that you install a 7kWh charger, which is the most future-proof solution and will offer the best compromise between speed and price.

A dedicated electric vehicle home charger has some key benefits compared to charging your electric vehicle from a home socket:

• You should be able to charge your electric car at least three times faster if you install a 7kWh charger. The charging time of a Plug-in Hybrid will improve by about 50% compared to a three-pin socket.

• It’s much more robust, safer and reliable.

A connected charging point allows you to check all charging session details online. They also enable the manufacturer to install firmware updates and fixes remotely if required.

You will receive a notification via your Kia Connect App once your electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle is fully charged.

It is possible to install a home charger even when you don’t have your own driveway or grid connection. In most cases you will need to contact the property’s freeholder to receive approval for the necessary installation, like cabling and possible adjustments within the central fuse box.

In most cases there are no technical limitations when installing a home charger however this may mean the work required goes beyond what is deemed as ‘standard’. A cable longer than 15 metres and any need for trenching or hiding the cable will result in additional costs. To prevent any unpleasant surprises, our partners will assist you prior to your installation and discuss the best way forward.

After requesting a quotation, you will be invited to complete a remote survey. This survey asks you for information and photos e.g. the desired location of the charge point, the fuse box and other important aspects to assure a smooth installation process. Once the survey is complete, our partner will contact you to provide an installation date.

Installation lead times vary and it is best to place your order as early as possible so our partners can schedule the best possible installation date for you, preferably before you take delivery of your vehicle.
