What Makes the Picanto Perfect for City Drivers?

If you’re a city driver, you’ll know the difficulties of driving on congested urban roads. From dealing with rush hour traffic to squeezing into tight parking spaces, city driving is often challenging.

This is set to change with the new Kia Picanto . With improved fuel efficiency, an enhanced design and fine-tuned performance, the new Picanto makes the perfect city driving companion.

Keep reading to find out exactly what makes the Picanto such a good city car and how it can make urban driving simple, convenient and effortlessly enjoyable.

What is involved in urban driving?

Urban driving often involves various challenging situations. City drivers must frequently deal with congested roads, narrow city streets and lanes, and small parking spaces. As well as avoiding other cars, they must also remain aware of other road users like cyclists and pedestrians, along with one-way systems.

While city driving can have its difficulties, as long as you have a car specially designed and well-equipped for the job, getting around town can be easy.

What features make the Picanto a good city car?

The best city cars should provide a simple solution to all the challenges of driving on busy city roads. With a comprehensive suite of city driving credentials, the new Kia Picanto does exactly this.

Compact styling

The new Picanto is a little car with big city capabilities. Thanks to its compact styling, the Kia Picanto can effortlessly handle busy traffic, navigate narrow streets and fit into small parking spaces.

Even with its bolder, more confident and refined look, the Picanto retains its compact dimensions. “We were surprised to learn that the new Picanto has the same overall dimensions as the outgoing Picanto, as its new look gives the illusion of a larger car with greater road presence,” said Carbuyer journalists Charlie Harvey and Tom Gumbrell.

While showcasing a sporty design, our most loved small car also boasts a generous cabin, with plenty of room to comfortably accommodate four adults. The impressive boot space remains the same as the outgoing model, with a standard capacity of 255 litres. This can be extended to 1,010 litres when the rear seats are folded down.

Enjoyable driving, simple parking

A good city car should help you to navigate all the challenges of driving in the city, especially when you’re dealing with stop-start rush hour traffic or searching for a parking spot.

While most cities have plenty of on-street parking, the real trouble for city drivers is finding a spot big enough. As a compact car , the Picanto is easy to squeeze into smaller spaces, giving city car drivers many more parking options.

Like all good city cars, the Picanto is also well-equipped for reversing. The new model features rear parking sensors and a reversing camera system. It also includes Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist. This uses high-tech sensors to detect and alert you to pedestrians and other vehicles when reversing out of a parking spot.

Even better, our third-generation model now also has a suite of driving assistance technologies and advanced safety programmes that come as standard. These include functions like Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Following Assist, and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist. These intelligent driving assistants are ideal to help you stay safe, even on narrow lanes and across varying city speed limits.

A small car with great fuel economy

Cost efficiency is one of the key credentials of a good city car. As small cars tend to have smaller engines, they also tend to be some of the most fuel-efficient cars on the market.

The new Picanto comes with a choice between a 1.0- or a 1.2-litre engine. Both have been optimised to provide maximum fuel efficiency and release fewer CO2 emissions. The 1.0 litre returns an impressive 55.4 MPG, while the larger engine boasts a 51.4 MPG.

This, combined with the fact that the Picanto is one of the most affordable city cars on the UK market, means our enhanced hatchback is sure to provide long-term, economical value.

Advanced connectivity that lets you read the road like never before

When you’re driving in the city, you often need real-time visibility of what’s happening on the road ahead.

The enhanced Picanto now includes an 8” touchscreen for navigation as standard that, with our onboard Kia Connect services, includes real-time traffic data and step-by-step route instructions. The new system also allows you to pre-load the navigation with route directions before you even get in the car.

The new Picanto is bursting with a host of other advanced connectivity and convenience features, including USB Type C charging ports throughout the cabin, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a wireless charger.
