Winter, the Kia way

Summer is coming to an end, and that means it’s time to make sure your car is ready for autumn and winter. Whether that’s ensuring your car is prepared for adverse weather, or equipping it for any adventures you have planned. Here are some top tips to get your Kia ready for the coming months.

Do some quick checks

You don’t have to be a qualified vehicle technician to check the basics. Firstly, inspect your wipers. Rain is coming, and it’s important that your wipers are in good working order. Have a look along the rubber, and search for any cracks or splits. When you turn on your wipers, if you can see areas that have been missed or lines and streaks, it may be time to change your blades. This is a good opportunity to also review your washer fluid level, and top it up if necessary. Being able to see clearly is of the utmost importance, and it's just as important that people can see you – so make sure your lights and indicators are all clean and working.

Check your oil level. It’s one of the most important things to inspect regularly in your car. You can find details on how to do this in your vehicle's handbook. If you need to top up your oil, the correct oil specifications for your vehicle can be found here. Car batteries are under additional strain in the colder months – in fact, it’s one of the top causes of winter breakdowns. So if you haven’t replaced your battery in a few years, or if you have trouble starting the car or it starts slower than usual, it might be time to have it tested.

Tyre safety

We can’t overstate the importance of having good tyres with plenty of tread. They are the only thing that connects your car to the road. Check your tyre pressures, that there are no bulges, cuts or tears, and that there’s a healthy amount of tread – 1.6mm is the legal requirement, but 3mm is the recommended minimum. If you think you may need some new tyres, you can visit your local Kia dealer or even order your tyres online by simply entering your car registration.

Have a trained Kia Technician take a look

For further peace of mind, contact your local dealer to discuss your requirements. A Kia Technician can thoroughly inspect your vehicle to ensure that everything is in good working order. If your vehicle requires any work, your Kia dealer will use Genuine Kia Parts, which come with a two-year warranty.

Personalise your Kia

Making your vehicle safe is naturally a priority, but you also want it to be the perfect companion when you’re feeling inspired.

Fitting a waterproof boot liner and all-weather mats will protect your vehicle's interior from water, mud and snow that gets carried in on shoes and clothes if you decide to brave the elements. They’re easy to clean, too. On the outside, a set of mudguards will help preserve your paintwork. And, if you’re bringing a family pet along, a cargo separator will keep them secure in the boot.

Add a roofbox, bike carrier, or even a towbar, you’ll be all set to load up and hit the road.

For additional peace of mind, there’s a road safety kit complete with safety vests, a warning triangle and a first aid kit. You can also add disposable breath tests to make sure you’re safe to drive. Lastly, fitting a dashcam will help protect you and your passengers should the unfortunate happen.

Choosing the right accessories for your vehicle is easy. Simply visit our Accessories Click and Collect service and then choose from accessories that were made specifically for your vehicle. You can then decide to have them fitted by a trained Kia Technician.
