A standard installation is when the work can be carried out at the site without any additional site preparation works, man hours or additional equipment. A standard installation will involve installation of the device where:

    > the consumer unit (fuse board) is no more than 10 metres from the proposed position of the charge point

    > the fuse board is a trip switch type. If the fuse board is not a trip switch type, the fuse board would need to be upgraded in line with Safe Electric Guidelines.

    > 10 Square earth bonding with earth electrode is present. Where there is no 10 Square earth cable, this would need to be upgraded in line with Safe Electric Guidelines.

    > 16 Square mains cable is present. In the event of old mains wiring, this would need to be upgraded to 16 Mains in line with Safe Electric Guidelines.

Any additional work requested outside of the standard installation will be charged to the customer.

This can vary depending on the need for additional works. For a standard installation where no additional works are needed, you can expect an installation date within 33 working days of sign up. If your home needs additional works this can delay the install and is dependent on the type of works required.

It is recommended by the SEAI to have a survey conducted before arranging the installation of your home charge point. Energia offer a survey for €95 however you may prefer to arrange your own electrician to conduct the survey.

Yes, you can arrange your own electrician once they are both RECI and Safe Electric certified. Energia's installation team will be happy to provide a checklist of the points the electrician needs to note on their survey and what needs to be completed during the additional works. Only the Energia installation team can install the charger unit itself.

The SEAI is a separate entity to Energia and are responsible for the eligibility of grants and the grant payment process. You will need to have applied for your SEAI grant and received your letter of grant offer before any installation works. Please do not proceed with any charger installation works before the start date on your SEAI Letter of Offer as you may not receive the full grant support available. Once your charger has been installed, our installer will provide you with documents that you will need to provide to the SEAI so that they can release your grant payment. All queries about the SEAI Grant should be directed to the SEAI.
