It’s important you have all the necessary information about your Kia to ensure maximum performance and safety. This page includes quick tips that apply to all the different car models, including the Kia Sportage and Kia EV9 range. Kia help and support includes everything from how to remove ice from an electric charging door in the ‘car care’ section, to how to escape your car in the event of an emergency.

  • How to stop the engine in case of an emergency

    Use this method only in emergency situations, such as when a fire occurs in your Vehicle or when it is difficult to operate the brake.

     

    In case of an emergency, there are two ways to stop the engine.

    1. Press and hold the engine start stop button for 2 seconds.
    2. Press and hold the engine start stop button 3 times within 3 seconds
    3. Electric vehicles can be stopped in the same way.

    In the event of an emergency where your vehicle falls into water or it is impossible to get off through the door normally due to an accident, break the vehicle glass and exit the vehicle in the following way.

    1) Pull on a headrest while pressing the unlock button at the bottom of the headrest to remove it.

    2) Strike headrest poles hard on the edge of one of the side windows. When the window breaks, remove any broken pieces of glass and exit the vehicle safely.

    3) The windshield and the rear window are strong and may not break easily.In case of emergency, break the side windows.

    If your smart key’s battery level becomes low, the cluster will display a guide message saying, “The battery level on your smart key is low.” Replace the battery before it is fully discharged. When the battery installed in your smart key is flat, your vehicle will not start, even if you press the engine / EV start stop button.

    In that case, step on the brake pedal and directly press the engine start stop button with your smart key.

    How to get out of the trunk when stuck inside

    When you are stuck in the trunk, do not be afraid and calmly search for the unlocking device. It is located in the trunk lid or inside the trunk with a sign on [OPEN] or [PULL]. You can unlock the trunk door by pushing or pulling the unlocking device.

     

    Trunk is not airtight, so there is no risk of running out of oxygen. If you become stuck in the trunk, do not be afraid and breathe regularly and calmly.

     

    If the tire is flat, park your vehicle in a safe place and repair the flat tire with the tire mobility kit, which is located under the trunk floor. If the sidewall of the tire is damaged or the bottom of the tire is seriously damaged, however, contact the nearest authorized Kia dealer or service partner.

    1) Remove the speed warning sticker from the side of the compressor, attach it to the steering wheel, and shake the bottle up and down to mix the sealant.

    2) Twist open the lid of the sealant bottle and the sealant bottle mounting unit.

    3) Connect the sealant bottle to the sealant bottle mounting unit. (Rotate the sealant bottle to fasten it until it cannot rotate anymore)

    4) Open the wheel air inlet cap of the damaged tire and the inlet protective cap of the injection hose, ensure the tire pressure control valve is open, and connect it to the wheel air inlet.

    5) Connect the power outlet and compressor with the power outlet connector.

    6) Start your vehicle and turn the compressor on to inflate the tire and release the sealant.

    7) Let the compressor run for 10 minutes to allow the tire to reach a proper pressure.

    8) Turn the compressor off, remove the tire mobility kit from your vehicle, and return it to its storage place.

    9) To evenly apply the sealant to the inner surface of the tire, immediately drive your vehicle up to 3-10km (2-6miles) or for 10 minutes at 80km/h (50mph) or less.

    10) Check the tire pressure again and visit the nearest authorized Kia dealer or service partner.

  • How to remove ice from flush door handles

    In extreme winter conditions, the door handle may not open due to icing inside the door handle. Remove the ice as below.

     

    1. Remove icing by tapping the door handle using the bottom of your fist in a circular pattern along the perimeter of the door handle.
    2. If necessary, increase the intensity of tapping to remove ice, and repeat until the door handle protrudes when unlocking the door.
    3. When the door handle protrudes and can be pulled, open and close a few times to remove any icing residue.

     

    * Instead of tapping the door handle, warm the door handle indirectly (i.e. hand temperature, etc.) to remove icing inside.

     

    ※ Warning

    • Before performing this procedure, remove any jewelry or objects that could damage the paintwork and do not attempt to use tools or excessive force. 
    • Do not apply excessive force or use sharp objects to the electric charging door. It may be damaged.

    How to remove ice from electric charging door

    In extreme winter conditions, the electric charging door may not open due to icing inside the door handle. Remove the ice as below.

     

    1. Remove icing by tapping the electric charging door using the bottom of your fist in a circular pattern along the perimeter of the electric charging door. If necessary, increase the intensity of tapping to remove ice, and repeat the process. 
    2. When the electric charging door operates normally, open and close a few times to remove any icing residue. * Instead of tapping the electric charging door, warm the electric charging door indirectly (i.e. hand temperature, etc.) to remove icing inside.
